As the long, religious-like, debate continues between proponents of open source and closed-source approaches to application development, smart (or dare I say logical) developers need to stay abreast of both environments. All things being equal, we tend to favor Microsoft development tools like Visual Studio for speed of development and commercial availability of components. We have also found that Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools such as Iron Speed Designer can help Visual Studio Web developers leverage their training and develop beautiful, full-featured Web database applications with a minimum of time and effort.
Free Utilities
SendMyReminder.com is a free Web site that allows you to send reminders to yourself or other people via email or text messaging. SendMyReminder.com, a technology proof of concept developed with Iron Speed Designer, is administered by Logical Developers.
Web Site Promotion
The first thing that you should do once your site has been created is to add the URL to Google's directory. Google Webmaster tools is a good place to start when you are looking to promote a Web site. It allows you to check Google's crawl rate, submit a site map and much more.
XML-sitemaps.com is a very handy online tool that allows you to generate sitemaps that can be submitted to Google in "Webmaster Tools." The only downside to it is that it has a maximum limit of 500 pages that it will crawl. If you need a sitemap for a larger site, you can use GSiteCrawler, a slightly buggy but otherwise full featured sitemap generator for Windows.
